Northern British Columbia Trophy Elk Hunts The Best Wilderness Elk Hunt in North America |
|||||
Right now the best wilderness elk hunting in all of North America is found in the northern Rocky Mountains of British Columbia. Here vast burns have created exceptional habitat and the elk herds have grown to incredible numbers. It is not uncommon to see 10-20 bulls in a single day of hunting and our hunter success rate is almost 100% on mature 6x6 bulls. Most hunters add moose in combination and over 90% of our clients take both animals during a seven to ten day hunt. We have hunted here on multiple occasions and filmed some of the best footage ever for the Steves Outdoor Adventures television series on the Outdoor Channel. The elk season runs from August 15 through October 31, the liberal season allows us to hunt elk during the peak of the rut and the elk here respond to calling very well. We found the quality of the elk to be on par with many of the limited draw units in western states. However our clients in British Columbia are guaranteed a tag so there is no waiting for a draw. We also have the flexibility to hunt our clients out of several back country cabin camps or out of the main multi-million dollar lodge. All of the areas are accessed by air only, so resident hunting pressure is very limited and in most areas non-existent. From the camps all hunting is done by horseback and the stock is excellent and well broke. If you would like to experience the finest wilderness elk hunting in North America please contact our office today for dates and availability, and look for our hunts here on the Outdoor Channel or on our show website at www.stevesoutdooradventures.com where you can also view our program on your computer. This is another excellent elk hunting option in British Columbia. Most hunters go out by horseback, hunting either from the main lodge or back country cabins in the wilderness. The area has excellent population densities and trophy quality with most bulls being in the 300 B&C size class. They have however taken a few larger class elk over the years so upper end trophy quality is possible. Success rates have run in the 80% range for the long term and most hunters have opportunity at a bull elk during their ten day hunts. We offer three ten day hunting packages each year Sept 9-18, Sept 21-30, and October 3-12 with each hunt being about the same for quality. Each week is limited to four to six hunters maximum and everyone is guided 1x1 to maximize hunter opportunity. Elk hunters can option to add mountain caribou as a combination species. Mule deer, black bear, and some whitetail can also be hunted in combination as well. Call for details on the combination hunting. This is an ideal location for hunters wanting to drive to their hunt as it is not far north of the US-Canadian Border and the lodge is easily accessed by vehicles. Contact our office if you are interested in discussing this as your next elk hunting adventure! At any time you are on the ranch you are within a ten mile radius of between 800-1000 elk. This means you do not have to get winter weather conditions to be successful in taking a mature elk + the later November dates always produce a big mule deer or two for our clients. The ranch is limited to six hunters per week throughout the rifle season and our long term success on bull elk has been 75%. Hunters stay in a wall tent camp with wood floors, wood stove heaters, and a main cook tent. Hunters get around the ranch on foot, by ATV, or in 4wd trucks.
