World Class Sheep Hunts

Steve’s Outdoor Adventures has a terrific reputation for working with some of the best sheep outfitters and guides in the world. Annually we help people succeed in their quest for the Grand Slam of North American Sheep as well as other hunters who wish to get a taste of sheep country. In North America we have hunts for Dall Sheep, Stone Sheep, Rocky Mountain Bighorn Sheep, California Bighorn Sheep, and Desert Bighorn Sheep. Our outfitters and guides have a lifetime of experience and are dedicated to your success. We are one of the few booking agencies that actually has the ability to customize a sheep hunt that fits your needs individually. By working with a variety of different outfitters and guides our options are vast and we put our personal experience to work for you – this is why we have been called the SHEEP CONNECTION by many of our clients. Listed below is a sample of the various hunts we have to offer our clients. By no means is this a complete listing of sheep hunts we have to offer, but rather a sample. You will be best served to contact our office and work with one of us directly and allow us to help you book the hunt that is right for you.

Yukon Dall Sheep Hunts.......................................................................................................$13,950.00

This is a horseback hunt in an area that regularly produces the biggest dall sheep taken in either Alaska or Canada. It is not uncommon for sheep to exceed 38”-40” and have bases measuring 15” or more! This unique area has superior trophy genetics and relatively mild terrain for sheep country. The area is exceptionally large and only a limited number of rams are taken from here each season to ensure a lasting resource and trophy quality for years to come. All inclusive cost is $15,850 from Whitehorse, YT. (optional combination with moose and grizzly on select dates)

NWT Helicopter Dall Sheep Hunts...........................................................................................$18,500.00

This is the premier dall sheep hunt today because of the easy access to the mountain tops via helicopter to your spike camp. By allowing our clients to hunt from the top down to the sheep we have been able to offer successful sheep hunts to clients in their 60’s and 70’s – ages when most sheep hunters have retired! Rams here are also very good in trophy quality with 36” to 38” rams taken on the average and a few 40” plus sized rams taken as well. Price is all inclusive from Ft. Simpson, NWT. (optional combination with goats and mountain caribou on select dates)

Alaska Horseback Sheep Hunts.............................................................................................$11,900.00

These hunts take place inside the St. Elias National Park in an exclusive guide use area. The remote nature of the area means that there is little to no resident hunting pressure. Sheep populations are high in this region and hunter success has been very good – to date only one SOA client has gone here and not gotten his sheep – and he is rebooked for next year! The sheep our clients have taken regularly average 35”-36” with a handful of exceptionally good rams taken over the last few years. Cost does not include the $695 air charter from Fairbanks, $500 license/tag fees, or 3% park use fee. (optional combination with grizzly and moose on select dates)

Alaskan Backpack Sheep Hunts...............................................................................................$9,950.00

For the sheep hunter on a budget this is a good option. We have a couple of very good individual registered guides who specialize in one on one backpack hunts. They often have located sheep and sometimes specific rams while on recon flights in the super cubs. Hunters need to be in exceptional condition before booking one of these hunts as they are physically demanding. The cost does not include $750 air charter from Anchorage, $500 license/tag fees, and in some select cases additional air charters. Call for details. (optional combination with grizzly on select dates)

Stone Sheep Hunts (premier)................................................................................................$38,500.00

Right now the premier area for stone sheep is located 250 miles NW of Ft. St. John British Columbia. This area has the genetics for producing trophy rams. On my personal hunt there this past fall season I measured an eight year old ram at 40” and 176 B&C gross which will qualify it for the B&C all time record books. This is incredible genetics for trophy potential and the local population looked very good and many sheep were seen. During our stay there four rams were brought in that measured 40”, 40”, 39.5” and 38” – all super trophy quality animals. Price is all inclusive from Ft. St. John. (combination optional for elk, moose, goats, and caribou)

Stone Sheep Hunts (budget).................................................................................................$24,000.00

For hunters who are still trying to complete their quest for a stone sheep that cannot afford to hunt in our premier area we do offer an alternative. While we still maintain a good success rate rams will average 34” to 38” year in and year out. We offer these hunts in two different areas that have been very good for sheep hunter success. We often book these hunts for 10-14 days with a base rate of $14,000 and a trophy fee of $10,000 due on the shot. Call for availability and combination options. Price does not include license, tag, tax, or air charters.

Rocky Mountain Bighorn Hunts..............................................................................................$25,000.00

We specifically offer these hunts in the Rocky Mountains of both Alberta and British Columbia in quality areas known for producing quality rams. All hunting is normally horseback with some backpack hunting required. The general seasons are in September and into mid October, well before the rut. Hunters usually harvest 150-165 B&C class rams and we have an annual success rate of 70% on these sheep hunts. Tags are guaranteed but limited each year so plan on booking well in advance. Cost does not include license, tag, and tax.

Western States Sheep Hunts .............................................................................$7,500.00 to $9,500.00

If you are lucky enough to draw a sheep permits for a western state please contact our office. We have sheep specialists in each state who put together a comprehensive plan for you. These are once in a lifetime draw tags and we will do everything we can to make sure you have the perfect hunt. Extensive pre-season scouting on the ground and often by air will help us to pinpoint the sheep and get you on a quality ram. Call our office for additional details.

Barbary Sheep (aka Auodad Sheep)

We do all of these hunts on a 140,000 acre property two hours east of El Paso, TX where we have totally exclusive hunting rights. This ranch has an awesome history for producing trophy Aoudad every year. The ranch has excellent water, road systems, and the guide staff is exceptional. The California bighorn species is an alternative to the Rocky Mountain Bighorn for completing your grand slam. These sheep hunts are done in central British Columbia out of a horseback camp in either September or October. Hunter success rates are often 75% or better every year – and hunters in superior condition with good shooting skills should fare very well. These hunts are limited to three or four permits a year. Cost for 2009 is expected to increase to in excess of $20,000 but hunters who book early are not subject to price increases.
